HamaTech AG: Interim statement for the third quarter 2008
HamaTech AG / Release of an announcement according to Article 37x of the WpHG [the German Securities Trading Act] Interim report according to Article 37x of the WpHG, transmitted by DGAP - a company of EquityStory AG. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Interim Report Q3/2008 Dear shareholders! The general conditions for the segments Recordable Optical Disc and Hamatech APE did not improve in the 3rd quarter 2008 either. Sales in the first nine months of 2008 amounted to EUR 15.2 million compared with EUR 37.4 million in the same period one year ago. The trend of sales and order intake in the segment Recordable Optical Disc clearly shows that this work area will remain difficult in the business year 2008 as well. So far, only 12 CD-R or DVD-R replication lines have been sold. Replication lines for recordable media are only demanded from South America, the Middle East and China any longer. In China we are faced with fierce competition from a domestic provider. Therefore, we decided to develop a new, simplified machine in China at a subsidiary of SINGULUS, SINGULUS Manufacturing GUANGZHOU, and to produce the machine at this site as well. In this context, a central module will be supplied from Kahl. The HamaTech APE was not able to withdraw from the strongly cyclical trend of the semiconductor equipment activities in the current year, either. We have to assume that the earnings at HamaTech APE will remain significantly below the level achieved in the business year 2007. HamaTech APE focuses its development efforts on future-oriented topics such as the lithography technology of the next generation on the basis of extremely short-wave ultra-violet light. The core competence, processes for the cleaning of photo masks, can also be transferred to other structuring technologies. Accordingly, we are working with renowned producers of magnetic data storage media to be able to mass produce nanoimprinting, a new process to attain even higher storage densities. Order intake and order backlog In the first nine months the order intake amounted to EUR 12.1 million, the amount in the respective period one year ago had totaled EUR 27.2 million. Development of headcount The headcount in the HamaTech Group as of September 30, 2008 amounts to 112 employees (previous year: 122). The number of employees in the segment Advanced Process Equipment is still nearly unchanged globally at 96 employees compared with the prior-year (100 employees). In the division Recordable Optical Disc the headcount dropped from 17 as of September 30, 2007 to 12 employees as of September 30, 2008. In addition, the headcount in central functions declined from 5 employees as of September 30, 2007 to 4 employees as of September 30, 2008. Outlook We refer to the outlook of our parent company SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES: SINGULUS will focus on the two segments Optical Disc and Solar. In the segment Optical Disc the global market leadership for Blu-ray production machines is in the spotlight. The order intake of Blu-ray machines in the 1st half year of 2008 exceeded our expectations significantly. SINGULUS continued to receive additional orders for their production lines in the 3rd quarter as well. The favourable trend in the Solar segment is driven by two factors: STANGL continues to experience very strong growth in the wet-chemical segment - SINGULUS is marketing the newly-developed solar coating machine SINGULAR since September 2008 and sees growth potential for the coming years. The new plant is based on the know-how gained in the core area Optical Disc. SINGULUS expects consolidated sales in the business year 2008 in a range from EUR 210 million to EUR 230 million. The write-offs and adjustments in the amount of EUR 41.2 million announced on September 17, 2008 have a considerable negative impact on the earnings figures for the full-year 2008. However, we expect a positive EBIT before restructuring charges. We expect the order intake in 2008 to exceed the level reached in the previous year and the order backlog as of the yearend to form a solid basis for the business year 2009. The agreed portfolio optimization in connection with the clear focus on the two growth areas Blu-ray and Solar will improve sales as well as earnings and the financial figures significantly in the upcoming years. We see the SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES Group on a good path and optimally positioned to successfully take advantage of future opportunities.
