This year, SOREL celebrates its 20th company anniversary. Since 1991 the medium-sized, owner-operated company has been manufacturing controllers for solar thermal, heating, fresh water stations and heat pumps in Sprockhövel near Dortmund, Germany. With the XHCC, SOREL builds a bridge between its TDC solar controllers (TDC = Temperature Difference Controller) and its HCC heating controller series (HCC = Heating Circuit Controller). Product Manager Christian Zänker: ‘The XHCC can control a solar thermal system in combination with up to two heating circuits plus a cooling device. In this sense, the controller combines the characteristics of our successful solar controllers and our innovative heating controllers.’ With increasingly complex control requirements, easy operability is becoming more and more important. Therefore, consistent user-friendliness of all its controllers is SOREL’s primary concern, as shown by the integrated setup wizard and the full-text mode with help texts without confusing symbols or abbreviations. The controllers are largely self-explanatory and can be operated intuitively, enabling installers and end users to get on without any complex technical support. A graphical, well-readable display with a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels and animated symbols ensures a perfect overview. Just like the XTDC controller for large scale systems, already presented in 2010, also the XHCC combined controller is equipped with a digital interface (CAN bus), enabling various additional functions like data logging, remote control and maintenance, connection of a room controller etc. Optionally, an Ethernet interface for the connection to a PC – direct or via router – is available, just like a comfortable user interface for remote analysis and input. Both large controllers – XHCC and XTDC – come with an integrated Micro-SD-Card for data logging and pre-configuration. Controlling speed control high efficiency pumps (0..10V/PWM) as well as flow and temperature metering via Grundfos VFS sensor and pressure monitoring via RPS sensor are further features. Initially, the controller includes 10 languages to ensure worldwide applicability. Further languages will be implemented upon demand. Beside the XHCC, SOREL will also introduce its new TDC solar controller generation in the course of this year. These new controllers, too, will feature a CAN bus as a standard.
